Are we in an Apocalyptic state based on the ancient prophets? The book of Isaiah prophetically gives meaning to the Middle Eastern conflict. Prophetic announcements have always been apart of civilization. The prophetic books of the Bible are Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah; however, in the Hebrew Bible Daniel is not considered a prophet. The prophetic books have unique style of preaching sometimes with a lot detail given about of the prophet and some books have scarce information on the prophet but it is always Lord God giving instruction. The Lord gives detailed instruction to the prophet and this is illustrated in Isaiah 7: 3- 9, “then the Lord said to Isaiah: Go out to meet Ahaz, you and your son Shear-jashub,* at the end of the conduit of the upper pool, on the highway to the fuller’s field, and to him: take care you remain calm and do not fear, do not let your courage fail before these two stumps of smoldering brands, the blazing anger of Rezin and the Arameans and of the son of Remaliah -5 because Aram, with Ephraim and the son Remaliah has planned * evil against you. They say, 6 Let us go up against Judah, tear it apart, make it our own by force, and appoint the son of Tabeel* king there” (Catholic Study Bible). This is during the Syro- Ephramite war of 735-732 B.C., these three were commanded to go out subdue Israel and Syria with a promise of victory. just imagine being ordered to go against those with promise of a dynasty as a child with their father the three children were; Shear-jashub, Emanuel and Maher-shalal-habaz. The prophecy instructions can include frightful instructions but we know that the Lord walks with those he calls to ensure we get to the mission accomplished. In the Bible when you see the phrase “Thus say the Lord” it is prophetic speech conveying a message. Within this message of the Syro – Ephramite war the actual time frame is given shown in vs 7-9, “Thus says the Lord GOD: It shall not stand, it shall not be! this is reiterated in Isaiah 8: 10, “Form a plan, it shall be thwarted; make a resolve, it shall not be carried out, for ‘With us is God!” We are given assurance that we are protected even when there is eminent danger. The rest of the prophetic message is Is 7: 8 “The head of Aram is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; 9 The head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. Within sixty-five years, Ephraim shall be crushed , no longer a nation. Unless your faith is firm, you shall not be firm!’ (Catholic Study Bible). We see in prophetic messaging that it shapes the future of society in the all areas of civilization to include, politics, national and international affairs with the assurance of the Lord God. This prophetic message illustrates the Lord and God operating to encourage those who become weary along the way, Is 7: 10-16, “Again the LORD spoke to Ahaz: 11Ask for a sign from the LORD, your God; let it be as Sheol, or high as the sky! 12 But Ahaz answered, “I will not ask! I will not tempt the Lord! 13Then he said: Listen, house of David! Is it not enough that you weary human beings? Must you also weary my God? Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign; the young woman, pregnant and about to a bear son, shall name Emmanuel. 15 Curds and honey* he will eat so that he may learn to reject evil and choose good; for before the child learns to reject evil choose good, the land of those two kings whom you dread shall be deserted” (Catholic Study Bible). Emanuel in this text is the prophecy of the birth of Christ. Prophecy pronouncements warns us and equips us with all the necessary tools we need in fulfilling the Lord and God’s vision and sometimes it is your own personal vision too. Please read (2 Sm 7: 12-16), (Gn 16:11; Jgs 13:3), (Mt 1: 23), (1Kgs 12). As the People of God, continue to pray for our Prophets and Leaders of today.
